National Day of Prayer

This was pretty kickass, we had a good time and raised a decent fuss with FACT.
I don't know how much awareness we actually raised. The Christians there were of the totally and permanently effing bonkers variety for the most part, so talking with them wasn't particularly helpful.
I got interviewed by a guy "from the Express News" but I forgot to ask for his press badge so I'm not sure he was legit. Hope I'm not in trouble with some cabal.
Maybe a few stories will be popping up in the next few days? We should all pay attention to the news.
Anyway, the involvement by the govt. was really scary here. Although according to the event organizers no government money went to pay this, it was really sickening watching elected officials pander to the ultra-religious. A representative of the mayor came to deliver what amounted to an endorsement of Christianity.
There was lots of revival style Jesus music. I don't know why Christians can't stick with the GOOD sacred music written like 400 years ago. There is little that is more aesthetically painful than watching a bunch of churchers with no sense of ryhthm or melody attempt to wave, clap, dance, and worst of all, sing along with music that I could have produced by hiring a monkey to write a Java program to generate.
Next year I'm bringing a sound recorder so I can get all this on file and play it back for everyone to hear.

2008 Protest Coverage
Didn't start a new thread on this year's protest, so I'm just tacking it to this one...

Hooray for Colin McDonald for misspelling Atheist Agenda!!
"While Hardberger spoke, a group of students from the University of Texas at San Antonio began to unroll their signs questioning the event and validity of prayer.
'We are for the freedom of religion but also the freedom from religion,' said anthropology major Taryn Harris. “They are blocking access to a public building.'
Six students from Athiest Agenda, a student club at UTSA, held signs with messages such as 'Don't talk to yourself, Help people.' And 'Pray to god, Heal an Amputee.'
About prayer, biology major Carlos Morales said, 'I think it's a total waste of time.'
The group's adviser, physics lecturer Chris Dunn, said he saw the event as a clear violation of the separation of church and state. "
All in all, we had a great time (although we couldn't locate many FACT members) and we definitely got the word out. Met plenty of kids from private Christian schools, and we were even invited to come speak at the schools. After all the discussion following the service, we hit up the downtown restaurant Pico de Gallo and had great Mexican food while planning out an Atheist Agenda presentation for the kids. The protest was definitely fun and I can't wait for the end-of-semester party, and we're totally gonna raise some hell next semester!

"Another great National Day of Prayer has just wrapped up, and I know that I feel myself lifted up on the wings of angels as the prayers from all over the nation sweep through our hearts and take our messages straight to Jesus." - F'n great
