I've known gay people who also use the word "gay" to mean "lame" or "stupid." It's entered the lexicon in a context that isn't necessarily homophobic or malicious. For example, if I use the word "lame" in a similar fashion, would you call me out for insulting disabled people?

Words aren't that big a deal. There are much bigger things to be pissed off about, like wars, bullshit governments, children being turned stupid by our miseducation system, those little plastic seals around every bottle of pills for sale anywhere, religious brainwashing, people dying over ignorance caused by said brainwashing, anti-smoking activists... when the guy who hates everything thinks you're pissed off about something that doesn't matter, that's probably saying something.

Saying nigger or faggot or cunt or kike or wetback or anything like that doesn't mean you hate black people or gay people or pussy or Jews or Mexicans or anyone like that. Cut the PC bullshit, quit trying to psychoanalyze people based on words they use, and don't try to start fucking racist bullshit for no good reason. People being so fucking uptight about race is one of the biggest reasons jackoffs like Al Sharpton can make gazillions by calling people racist, do you really want to help them? Saying someone is black doesn't have to be a bad thing... as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't mean anything at all except that maybe someone else has a better tan than I do.
